AIM Global Honors Industry Leaders at 2008 Summit

Automatic Identification Executives Recognized in Historic Washington, DC

Washington, DC – May 5, 2008 – AIM Global, the association for Automatic Identification and Mobility honored four individuals whose exceptional contributions to the development and growth of the automatic identification and mobility community merit special recognition. The Richard R. Dilling, the Don Percival, the Ted Williams, and the Excellence in Journalism Awards, the industry's most prestigious awards, were presented during the AIM Industry Awards Gala on April 28 at the Capital Hilton in Washington, DC.

AIM Global awarded its highest honor, the Richard R. Dilling Award, to Craig Maddox, retired, Director of Product Management and New Business Development for NCR, in recognition of his vital contributions to the development and growth of the automatic identification and mobility industry.  Mr. Maddox was instrumental in NCR's retail Point-of-Sale scanning developments and was a long-term and tireless contributor to many of today's bar code standards.

AIM Global and SCAN: The Data Capture Report recognized Robert Leibrandt, Deputy Program Manager for the Unique Identification (UID) Policy Office in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, with the Don Percival Award. The Percival Award is a distinction presented annually to an individual from the user community recognizing outstanding contributions to the application of automatic identification and mobility technologies.  Mr. Leibrandt serves as the primary advocate for UID and mandating of automatic identification for all item marking, and has shepherded the incorporation and refinement of UID requirements in the revision efforts for MIL-STD-130L through MIL-STD-130N.

Victor Vega, Director of Tag Product Marketing for Alien Technology Corporation, was awarded the Ted Williams Award which is presented annually in recognition of an educator's and entrepreneur's innovative and exceptional contributions that further the growth of the industry. Mr. Vega has trained over 2,000 RFID professionals at the Alien RFID Academy during the years 2002-2007 and holds 19 RFID-related patents.

In recognition of his journalistic excellence and media representation of the RFID industry, Mark Roberti, Founder and Editor, RFID Journal, received the 2008 Excellence in Journalism Award.   The Excellence in Journalism Award was established by the AIM Global Education and Public Policy committee to recognize a journalist or media representative covering the automatic identification industry whose work exemplifies the qualities of honest, educational and unbiased reporting of the automatic identification and mobility industry.

“Nominations for the awards this year were outstanding and diverse in the areas of the expertise they represented,” said Dan Mullen, AIM Global president.  “It is truly a special event for AIM and we are pleased to recognize the significant achievements of these individuals and highlight their contributions to the growth of the overall automatic identification and mobility industry.”
