Alien Technology® Introduces Rugged, Easy-To-Install
RFID Dock-Door Portal Solution

New Alien® ALX-9010 Series enables scalable, low-cost, uniform deployment of dock-door RFID capabilities

October 17, 2006, Morgan Hill, Calif. – Alien Technology Corporation today introduced its ALX-9010 Series of Portal Appliances, an easy-to-install, all-inclusive dock-door solution for UHF RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) implementations. Featuring sleek, low-profile, ruggedized frames, the ALX-9010 family leverages the market-leading Alien ALR-9800 Gen2 RFID reader and up to four high-gain antennas per unit to deliver high read rates, easy deployment and exceptional maintainability in demanding dock-door environments.

ALX-9010 portal appliances are constructed around a sturdy, unibody, steel chassis that encloses and protects all RFID electronics and accessories. The durable, safety-yellow chassis is designed to ensure reliable operation in high-traffic areas, and also to enable fast, easy installation and servicing. With everything enclosed within the chassis, there is no need to route coax cable outside the cabinet, nor is there a need to open the cabinet at installation – unobstructed access to power, LAN and all other connections is available through a panel at the top of the unit, enabling fast, easy installation.

ALX-9010 portal appliances are built around the Alien ALR-9800 Gen2 Enterprise RFID reader, with its enterprise-scalable architecture, high performance Gen 2 capability, and superior dense reader management. The ALR-9800 reader is supported by leading RFID software solutions and EPC certified for Dense Reader Mode, meaning that high read rates are ensured even when large numbers of other readers are operating in proximity.

 The ALX-9010 Series encompasses four models including low-profile single-sided (two antennas), wall-mounted, and double-sided (four antennas) models, and an extended height single-sided model. Each model features an audible horn, circularly polarized antennas, and mounting hardware for such options as a light stack, electronic eye presence detector, and wireless LAN communications.
