HP, IBM, Intel, Microsoft and Oracle Collaborate with Alien to Showcase Industry-Specific Solutions at RFIDJournal LIVE! 2006
May 1, 2006, Morgan Hill, CA — Alien Technology Corporation today announced that it is teaming with several of its alliance partners to demonstrate a range of industry-specific RFID applications in the RFID@Work Solutions Demonstration Center at RFIDJournal LIVE! 2006, in Las Vegas, NV, May 1-3. The partners include Hewlett-Packard (HP), IBM, Intel, Microsoft and Oracle, all of which have collaborated with Alien in the development of RFID solutions.
“Companies across numerous vertical industries are looking for deployable RFID solutions capable of delivering a rapid and meaningful ROI, and we’re pleased to be partnering with so many technology leaders to help make these solutions a reality,” said Susan Pearson, VP Alliances, Alien Technology Corporation. “The RFID applications we are demonstrating at RFIDJournal LIVE! in conjunction with HP, IBM, Intel, Microsoft and Oracle illustrate how RFID works seamlessly with other enterprise information technologies to solve real-life business problems in supply chain management, transportation and logistics, and retail.
Alien and its partners will be demonstrating RFID solutions throughout the day on Tuesday, May 2 and Wednesday, May 3 at the RFID Journal LIVE Conference & Exhibition’s RFID@Work Solutions Demonstration Center located in the main exhibit hall. Several of the solutions were created at the RFID Solutions Center Dayton, a division of Alien Technology, and can be evaluated there by prospective customers under simulated real-world conditions.
The solutions being demonstrated include:
- HP, Microsoft and Alien – Retail Solution for Supply Chain Visibility
The three companies will demonstrate the capture and analysis of supply chain data in a solution that encompasses all supply chain functions, from procurement to replenishment, and which leverages such business visibility tools as dashboards and scorecarding for actionable intelligence.
- IBM and Alien – EPC-based Electronic Pedigree Solution Across a Supply Chain
The two companies will demonstrate the role of RFID in enabling large-scale supply chain collaboration, based on a real-life, mission-critical application in use by a large pharmaceutical manufacturer and its distributor.
- Intel, Oracle and Alien – Transportation and Logistics Solutions
Three joint solutions will be demonstrated including Mobile Asset Visibility, showing how assets can be tracked across supply chains in real-time for more efficient operations; Airline Baggage Tracking, showing how baggage can be tracked through airports for enhanced security, reduced baggage reconciliation costs, and increased passenger satisfaction; and Managing Reusable Containers in an Open Supply Chain, demonstrating the real-time tracking of reusable containers in a multi-party supply chain leveraging intelligent business rules and real-time event management.
Representatives from the RFID Solutions Center Dayton will also be presenting a demonstration entitled Automatic Reading and Programming of Gen 2 Tags, which will cover the basics of successful RFID deployment.
