Duane Zitzner Named To Alien Technology® Board Of Directors

Former Executive Vice President, HP Personal Systems Brings Extensive Enterprise Solutions and High Volume Expertise to Alien Board

March 23, 2006, Morgan Hill, CA — Alien Technology Corporation today announced that Duane Zitzner, a retired corporate officer of Hewlett-Packard Company, has been elected to the company’s Board of Directors, bringing several decades of extensive enterprise systems expertise to the Alien board. Prior to his retirement, Zitzner was Executive Vice President of HP’s multi-billion dollar Personal Systems Group, with responsibility for developing, manufacturing and marketing the HP business and consumer PCs, mobile computing devices and workstations. Previous to this, he served as President of HP’s Computing Systems organization with responsibility for the company’s computer and enterprise systems offerings.

“Duane Zitzner brings to the Alien Technology Board a wealth of experience in delivering complete networking and computing solutions to the enterprise market,” said Tom Baruch, Chairman of the Board, Alien Technology. “We are delighted that he will provide his unique insight to helping the company develop RFID as a robust automatic identification system for retailers, manufacturers and government organizations around the world.”

While leading HP’s Personal System Group, Zitzner also drove the company’s commercial and enterprise channel partners’ team, and was co-responsible for the Digital Entertainment initiative within HP’s consumer business. As President of HP Computing Systems, he helped elevate HP’s enterprise solutions with the introduction of the Superdome high-end server. Before joining HP in 1989, Zitzner held a variety of management and technical positions at IBM. He began his career as a programmer at Univac.

Zitzner is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Entone Technologies, a provider of video servers, and of Firetide, a wireless mesh technology company. He holds a B.S. degree in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and did graduate studies in computer science at the University of Minnesota.
