Alien Technology ALR-9800 Enterprise Reader Receives EPCglobal Certification Mark for Class 1 Gen2 Compliance
Atlanta, GA (EPCglobal US Conference) — September 14, 2005, — Alien Technology Corporation today announced receipt of the EPCglobal Certification Mark for Class 1 Gen2 compliance for the ALR-9800 Enterprise Reader. As announced today by EPCglobal, the ALR-9800 successfully completed the EPC Hardware Certification Program tests for conformance with the EPCglobal Class 1 Gen2 protocol.
The Certification Marks delivered during the 2005 EPCglobal US Conference at the Georgia World Congress Center certify that the products have been tested and will work according to EPCglobal standards, such as the UHF Generation 2 Air Interface Protocol standard ratified in December 2004. The EPCglobal Hardware Certification Mark assures the marketplace that the product to which it is affixed has been rigorously tested against EPCglobal standards by MET Laboratories, which was chosen as EPCglobal’s worldwide, third-party testing partner in 2004. The mark includes an 18-digit Global Service Reference Number (GSRN) that is unique to that product and the exact testing suite it completed. The EPCglobal Hardware Certification Program includes RFID silicon chips, readers, reader modules, and printer/encoders with embedded reader modules. A listing of certified products, vendor profiles and other resources are available to EPCglobal US subscribers at www.epcglobalus.org.
“We are pleased to receive the Certification Mark and to successfully participate in the EPCglobal Hardware Certification Program for Class 1 Gen 2 compliance,” said Stav Prodromou, CEO, Alien Technology Corporation. “The favorable result of this testing highlights the industry’s commitment to establishing a robust supplier network around the EPC Class 1 specification. Customers implementing RFID systems now have a solid reference to guide their Class 1 Gen 2 hardware buying decisions.”
The ALR-9800, Alien®’s new multi-protocol Enterprise RFID Reader, successfully passed all conformance tests for Class 1 Gen 2 compliance including tests performed in both standard and Dense Reader Mode (DRM). Designed for effective and economical integration of RFID with core business processes, the ALR-9800 enables manageable, reliable and economical implementation of RFID. The ALR-9800 fully supports and is certified for compliance with DRM, which is one of several key elements of effective management of dense reader environments, and others including Listen-before-Talk and triggered Autonomous Mode, which are also supported in the ALR-9800 reader. Compliance with the Gen 2 spec ensures a seamless transition from Class 1 Gen1 to Gen 2 at the pace and timing dictated by the user’s needs.
