Alien is served by a Board of Directors made up of thought leaders in the development and adoption of RFID, electronics manufacturing and supply-chain technologies.
Prior to his retirement, Duane Zitzner was Executive Vice President of the Personal Systems Group, HP, leading the organization responsible for the development and manufacturing of HP's business and consumer clients which include desktop and notebook PCs, handheld products, personal storage appliances, as well as workstations. In addition, he drove the company's combined commercial and enterprise channel partners' team, managing HP's close relationships with its distributors and resellers. His organization had co-responsibility for the Digital Entertainment initiative within HP's consumer business.
Previously, Zitzner served as president of HP's Computing Systems organization with the responsibility for computer products and enterprise systems. In that role, he helped elevate HP's enterprise solutions with the introduction of the Superdome high-end server.
Zitzner was appointed an HP Vice President by the HP Board of Directors in 1996 and held that position until his retirement. He is a retired officer of Hewlett-Packard Company.
Zitzner joined HP in 1989 as a manager in the Roseville Networks Division in California. Before joining HP, Zitzner held various management and technical jobs in software and architecture at IBM (International Business Machines). Previous to that he was a programmer at Univac.
Zitzner was born in Viroqua, Wisconsin. He holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and did graduate studies in computer science at the University of Minnesota. Zitzner serves on the boards of Entone and Firetide, is an advisor to Datacatch, and is a business advisor to the National ICT of Australia.
Peter Green joined Alien in November 2010. Mr. Green’s executive leadership experience includes expertise in leading high technology companies through high growth phases of their evolution. He has held CEO and senior management leadership positions for small startup organizations as well as large global companies. His senior management experience at large companies includes Intel, Texas Instruments and ON Semiconductor, and his CEO experience includes start-ups Imara Battery and Advent Solar.
Mr. Green obtained his Bachelor of Science in Physics and his Master of Science in Microwave and Telecommunication Theory.
John Gannon is a founder/General Partner of SunBridge Partners. SunBridge Partners is the US venture capital affiliate of SunBridge Corporation, a Tokyo-based venture capital and professional services firm. Mr. Gannon is a Director at Alien Technology, Embedded Planet and Blue Spark Technologies. Mr. Gannon has also been actively involved in the firm’s investments in Bloom Energy, Eclipse Aviation and Flarion. Mr. Gannon began his career as an engineer in the aerospace industry working for General Electric’s Astro-Space Division. At General Electric, he worked as a propulsion and orbit specialist on the Defense Satellite Communication System (DSCS) satellite program. Following work at General Electric, Mr. Gannon began a seven-year period of work in the field of currency derivative trading working for Merrill Lynch, Bank of America and Barclays Capital. John received an MBA from the University of Chicago and a bachelors degree in Aerospace Engineering from Penn State University.
C. Scott Hartz is recognized as a pioneer in leading transformational business solutions for Fortune 500 global enterprises. His 32-year career in management consulting with Price Waterhouse, and Price Waterhouse Coopers spans experience with the organizations' client base of over 70% of the Fortune Global 500 enterprises on a worldwide basis as well as numerous smaller business organizations and governmental units throughout the world.
Mr. Hartz is a managing director of Spire Capital Group LLC, where he focuses on the commercialization of early-stage technologies from universities, government and private research institutions. From 1995 to 2002, while Global CEO of PwC Consulting, Hartz led the company's growth to a $6.0 billion enterprise with a global leadership position serving multi-national companies in corporate transformation, e-business and e-markets, supply chain services, CRM, and enterprise resource planning. In 1999 and 2000, he was named one of Consulting Magazine's top-10 most influential consultants.
Hartz serves on the Board of Directors of Erie Indemnity Company. He also serves on The Wharton School Graduate Board and Lehigh University Business School Advisory Board. Mr. Hartz holds a B.S. degree in Economics from Lehigh University and an MBA degree from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Perry joined New Enterprise Associates (NEA) as a Consultant in 1995 and became a General Partner in 1996. Mark focuses on information technology investments. Present NEA portfolio companies include Alien Technology, Glacier Bay, Interlace Systems, Leapstone Systems, NewPath Ventures LLC, newScale, ProStor Systems, TestMart, Think3 and TiVo. Previous board memberships include among others, Growth Networks (acquired by Cisco Systems), Hyperion Solutions (NASDAQ: HYSL), iManage (acquired by Interwoven), Magma Design Automation (NASDAQ: LAVA), Silicon Graphics (NASDAQ: SGI), Silicon Spice (acquired by Broadcom), Trading Dynamics (acquired by Ariba). From April 1994 to December 1995, Mark served as President and Chief Executive Officer and then as Chairman of Viewstar Corporation. From 1985 to 1994, he was an executive with Silicon Graphics, Vice Chairman (1992-1994) responsible for worldwide field operations, Executive Vice President (1988-1991) responsible for the product divisions, and Vice President of Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer (1985-1987). Prior to this, Mark was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Sonoma Vineyards and a partner at Arthur Young & Company. He is a Certified Public Accountant in California. Mark received a Masters in Business Administration (with distinction) from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics (cum laude) from Amherst College. He is also a member of the board of KQED, the public broadcasting station for Northern California.
Keith G. Daubenspeck, Director
Advanced Equities Financial Corp. (AEI Chairman and Co-founder) Mr. Daubenspeck has had an eventful 22-year career in the securities industry. He was the architect behind three of the largest retail brokerage businesses in Chicago during his tenure at Lehman Bros., Oppenheimer and Bear Stearns. In the mid-1990's he co-founded Madison Securities, one of the first firms to specialize in technology private placements.
In 1999 Mr. Daubenspeck founded Advanced Equities, Inc (AEI). He served
as Chairman and CEO from 1999 until 2003, when he assumed the role of Executive
Chairman. Among his numerous responsibilities for the overall operation
and strategy of the firm, he serves as the head of investment banking and
oversees the company's many important VC relationships. He also sits on
the Board of Directors for several of AEI's portfolio companies, including
Alien Technologies, Motricity, and Metric Stream. In addition, Mr. Daubenspeck
is a partner or manager of numerous LLC's, managing over one billion dollars
of investments in technology
companies.
In his spare time, Keith is an avid Chicago sports fan and golfing enthusiast, and is a member of the renowned Medinah Country Club. Among his many outside interests, he is a serious student of history with a special knowledge of and affinity for the Civil War Era.
Paul joined NEA in 2003 and is a partner in NEA’s Menlo Park office. He focuses on wireless technology, Asian, and renewable energy investments. Paul's board memberships include Alien Technology, Boingo Wireless, DreamFactory, Jentro Technologies, and Motion Computing. He is also actively involved with Audience, BCD Semi, Deeya Energy, HelioVolt, Illumitex, Serious Materials, Solfocus, Spreadtrum (NASDAQ: SPRD), and Telegent Systems. At NEA, he has worked on the following investments: 3jam, Actions Semiconductor (NASDAQ: ACTS), Atheros (NASDAQ: ATHR), Cassatt (acquired by CA), Decru (acquired by NetApp), FineGround Networks (acquired by Cisco), Glu Mobile (NASDAQ: GLUU), Interlace Systems (acquired by Oracle), Luminary Micro (acquired by Texas Instruments), Salesforce.com (NASDAQ: CRM), SMIC (NYSE: SMI), UltraDNS (acquired by Neustar), and WholeSecurity (acquired by Symantec). Prior to NEA, Paul co-founded Mazu Networks (acquired by Riverbed Technology, NASDAQ: RVBD). He began his career at Medtronic and McKinsey. Paul received his MBA from Harvard and a bachelor's degree in engineering from MIT.
